Uttarpara is a small town of hooghly district,
West Bengal, India. Uttarpara Kotrung is a municipality of
Hooghly district. This place holds a very important place
in history. Uttarpara is a home of some of the best industrial
set-ups in West Bengal. It has the Shaw Wallace Distillery,
Shalimar Wire Products, and Hindustan Motors, which are the
only vehicle plant in West Bengal, which manufactures the
Ambassador car.
Uttarpara is located the southeastern tip of
the hooghly district, on the banks of the river Ganges. There
is also a canal, which marks the boundary between Uttarpara
adjoining with the Howrah district. Uttarpara is also rich
in cultural heritage. Sri Joy Krishna Mukherjee, a philanthropic
Zamindar of West Bengal has established a library, a public
hospital and a school. This town has always become a symbol
of peace, beautiful buildings, great architectural works,
and cultural heritage. But, now this town has become a fast
moving place with modern building apartments and ever increasing
population.
In Uttarpara, many great people came and spend
some time here. Michael Madhusudan Dutta has spent his last
days in Uttarpara library. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose also
came to Uttarpara once and gave a political speech. We can
get many great people from this place, such as, Joykrishna
Mukherjee, Poet Biharilal Chakraborty, Freedom fighter Amarendra
Chatterjee, Singer Manilal Nag, Malay Roy Choudhury, founder
of Hungry generation movement, Samir Roy Choudhury, member
of Krittibas group and co-founder of 'Hungryalist' movement,
Mritunjoy Sen Gupta, resident tutor of Bank Park.
It also consists, good educational schools and
