| Chinsurah
is a historic place, which was actually a Dutch colonial town
located near the river Ganges in West Bengal. Portuguese founded
it in 1579. Chinsurah was a municipality formed after merging
Hooghly and Chinsurah in 1865.
Chinsurah is mainly known for famous people like Bankim Chandra
Chatterjee, Debendranath Tagore, Bhudeb Mukherjee, Rabindranath
Tagore, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Chinsurah
is actually known for its rich heritage and identity.Chinsurah
has the biggest contribution to Bengal in the field of education.Chinsurah
has most oldest and famous school and colleges located here.
The Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) passes through this town.
In modern days Chinsurah is known as Chuchura and Chunchro.
It is historic station on the Howrah-Burdwan main line of
the Eastern Railway. Chinsurah is one of the most beautiful
town in Hooghly district.
