Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay - A Prestigious and Eminent Bengali Indian Novelist

Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is the most prestigious and eminent Bengali Indian Novelist. He was one of the popular novelists in India during the 20th century. He was born on September 15, 1867 at Devanandapur in the Hoooghly District of West Bengal. His father’s name was Motilal Chattopadhyay and mother’s name was Bhubanmohini. He was born in poverty, which has always influenced his writings. He was always very good at studies, but he couldn’t continue further because of the financial condition of his family. He received his early education from his paternal uncle’s house in Bhagalpur, where he wrote his famous novel ‘Devdas’. He almost spends 20 years of his life in Bhagalpur, which he has mentioned in many of his novels. He also joined a party of Naga Monks for a while and came to Mujaffarpur 1902.
